The Next Coast — Texas (Hybrid / Remote)
About Us
The Next Coast is a growing research and analytics firm operating at the intersection of AI, economics, and real-asset development. We build systems that bridge the gap between theory and application—from AI-mechanism design and market-forecasting models to proprietary tools for land valuation and rural-development strategy. Our work spans machine learning, market microstructure, real estate economics, and applied algorithm design, all unified under a single goal: turning ideas into operational advantages.
The Role
We are seeking a Computer Science Research Intern with strong technical ability and genuine intellectual curiosity. You will work directly with leadership on applied ML/AI projects, data pipelines, valuation models, and research prototypes. You will be exposed to both academic-style research and real-world investment problems (land markets, pricing models, algorithmic tools for property analysis).
What You Will Work On
- Building data pipelines for economic, market, and real-estate datasets
- Implementing quantitative models: forecasting, regime-detection, valuation, Monte Carlo, etc.
- Researching algorithmic approaches to honesty, transparency, and decision-making in AI
- Turning conceptual research into working code and internal tools
- Supporting technical aspects of publications and whitepapers
- Exploring markets: land pricing, liquidity layers, rural development finance
What We're Looking For
- Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Economics, or related field. Junior level standing or higher.
- Strong Python skills (NumPy, pandas; ML experience a plus)
- Interest in AI systems, economics, markets, or land use
- Ability to think clearly, argue rigorously, and explain your reasoning
- Curiosity about AI alignment, mechanism design, or incentives
- Ability to work independently on open-ended analytical problems/li>
- Optional but valuable: experience with GIS, ML training, or experimental design
What You'll Gain
- Exposure to research on model behavior and evaluation
- Real-world experience applying CS/ML to investment-grade decisions
- A body of work (papers, models, tools) you can point to afterward
To Apply
Send a short note and a resume to info@thenextcoast.com and include:
- One project you’re proud of (class or personal)
- A paragraph on why AI interests you
- Any GitHub or writing samples (optional but encouraged)
